Publish flood compensation policy or Div Com shall appear in person: HC | NDMA says aAdhar card not a precondition for releasing assistance | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 28: The state high court today directed authorities to publish revised policy on compensation of the flood victims in newspapers immediately and in case of failure, directed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to appear in person before it on Tuesday. "In wake of the direction issued on 13-05-2015, authorities were directed to publish the policy arrived at on 24 April 2015 in Urdu and in English newspapers within ten days so that the concerned will come to know about the same and claim compensation. No such publication has been produced before the court," a division bench of the court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice A M Magrey said while hearing a Public Interest Litigation-G A Lone and another Vs state. Subsequently, the division bench directed the authorities to publish the policy immediately, failing which it directed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to appear in person on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that Aadhar cards as the proof of identify was not a precondition for releasing additional financial assistance to victims of last year's floods. "The requirement of Aadhar or enrollment number is not a precondition for release of assistance and a decision to this effect was accordingly conveyed to the State government," Vijay Kajlia, joint advisor NDMA, stated in an affidavit filed before the court through Asistant Solicitor General of India S A Makroo. "For purpose of better data management, NDMA would seek to obtain the Aadhar/Enrollment numbers from the state government even after the assistance has been released," Kajlia added. |
