NC asks Mufti to resign over Hurriyat leaders' detention | Khisyani bili khamba nochay | | Abdul Majid
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 23: The National Conference, which didn't quit power even after death of 120 civilians in the street protests in 2010, wants Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to resign on "detention of Hurriyat leaders". National Conference regretted `uncertainty' preceding the scheduled NSA-level talks between New Delhi and Islamabad. Junaid Matoo said the "detention of Hurriyat leaders in New Delhi was part of an understanding between the Central Government and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed." He said, "it has become evident and apparent that J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had arrived at an understanding with the Central Government and the BJP to remain silent over the detention of Hurriyat leaders in exchange for the BJP's assurance that they would desist from destabilizing his Government in J&K. If this isn't the case, Mufti Sayeed should resign as the Chief Minister." The statement has come from the party whose leader Omar Abdullah did not quit even after 2010 bloodbath. But being out of power the NC wants Mufti to do what Omar could not do. Over the past few months, the NC has gone sympathetic towards the Hurriyat leaders. The NC leaders often try to step into separatist shoes. Last month on July 30 when Yaqub Memon was hanged, NC demanded return of mortal remains of the Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru who was hanged during the regime of Omar Abdullah. The Congress has been saying that Omar was informed about the Central government's plan to hang Guru well in time and that he had welcomed the decision "only to be in power." |
