In backdrop of resentment, party 'dreams' to sweep LAHDC polls....! | BJP still riding high on victory euphoria | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 22: Over 9 months, BJP continues to convolute itself in victory euphoria and is still riding on the wave which enabled the party bag as many seats in the state. At a time when that wave is waning and resentment growing fast, the leadership is claiming to sweep the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council elections which the region is gearing up for now, oblivious of the fact that it could not bag even a single seat out of four during Assembly elections when the Modi wave was at its zenith. The victory ecstasy is being expressed by BJP National Vice-President and MP Avinash Rai Khanna who is also Prabhari of J&K. Khanna is currently on tour to Ladakh region where he held meetings and interactions with the party cadres. The political message that was loaded with announcement to contest all the 26 seats of LAHDC elections was that the party must gear up itself and register win on all the seats. That such announcements are normal for any party around the time of elections is something normal. However, what looks a bit an overstatement on his part is the fact that things and situation is not same which were during LS polls and Assembly elections last year. Even as Khanna is a seasoned leader and associated with J&K, it is only expected of him to understand and grasp the political realities on political landscape of the state for each and every party, particularly for the ruling allies. There is no denying the fact that BJP bagged as many as 25 seats in last Assembly elections - an unprecedented tally that enabled it to form the Government for the first time in history of J&K. Khanna has been playing this up and attributed this huge success to the efforts he claims to have made both before the elections and during the time of Government formation in the state. So far so good and it is the job to the central leadership to give rewards on that score. However, it is imperative for the senior BJP leader to understand that these seats have been won only from one region, that is Jammu. Party leadership could not cash on the Modi wave nor was able to translate that euphoria into any gains in Ladakh region even as it contested in Leh and Nubra valley. Moreover, being in power doesn't and should not be seen as the mere criteria of BJP in a position to register win on most of the seats of LAHDC, leave alone all the 26 seats. Yet another fact related to LAHDC remains is that during last elections in the Council BJP was not able to register victory on more than four seats as against Congress which almost swept the polls.Things are far from being in complete control of BJP at this moment too in Ladakh region where political combinations and permutations are always different from the other two regions of Kashmir and Jammu. |
