| Parthenium awareness, eradication week concludes at KVK SKUAST | | |  Early Times Report
R S Pura Aug 22: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jammu working under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu concluded the Parthenium eradication week at its campus at R S Pura.
The programme was organized throughout the country from August 16-22 in which volunteers (BVSc. Students) of National Service Scheme (NSS) of SKUAST-J participated.
On the concluding day Dr Sanjay Khar (Programme coordinator KVK, Jammu) formally welcomed the students and briefed about the importance of conducting the Parthenium awareness/eradication week.
Dr Rakesh Sharma (Sr. Scientist, Agriculture Extension) deliberated upon the physiological stages, mechanical and chemical methods for the eradication of the weed while Dr Punit Choudhary (Scientist Forestry,) guided the students to adopt community approach for successful eradication of the weed from the common lands.
Dr Prem Kumar (Scientist Fisheries) and Dr S P Gupta (Scientist Horticulture) also elaborated upon the physical eradication and biological aspect of weed control measures to the students.
Later the volunteers of NSS uprooted the Parthenium that have invaded the R S Pura campus of SKUAST-J and pledged to eradicate the weed and disseminate the useful information provided by the KVK scientists in all possible ways to the farming community.
Dr S B Bakshi, Deputy Director Students Welfare and Programme Coordinator (NSS) also deliberated on the occasion.
Dr Anil Gupta, Medical Officer, SKUAST-J, Raju Gupta (Programme Assistant, Farm), Ms Poonam Abrol (Programme Assistant Trainings) and Mrs Shivani Sharma (Programme Assistant, Computers) of KVK Jammu also were present on this occasion. |
