Jammu, Sept 10: Describing the imposition of Service Tax on the facilities to pilgrims in the State, as highly provocative action, the JKPCC has termed Government response to the demands for its withdrawal, as a cruel joke with the religious sentiments of people. A press statement issued here, reacting to the State Government's attitude to go ahead with the service tax on the air travel services to the pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, Shri Amarnath Ji, Mata Machail Yatra and other pilgrimage in the State, the Chief Spokesman of the Congress, Ravinder Sharma described it as a deliberate attempt of provocations to the religious sentiments, which can have serious consequences.He also said there is strong resentment amongst the people over this unjustified step with some ulterior motive behind this action. This has happened for the first time in the State, when BJP is equal partner in the coalition, as per their numerical strength, although it lacks any authority in the Government. Questioning BJP for its failure to get order reversed, he criticized the BJP leadership for its meek surrender on all issues, for the sake of power. He questioned the status of the PDP-BJP coalition when both coalition partners are taking contradictory stand on almost all important issues. He described the coalition as a partnership of two opportunist forces, to enjoy power. |
