How Omar's regime ruined career of 6000 NYCs | Senior Abdullah sheds crocodile tears | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 10: National Conference president and former J&K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has extended support to the National Youth Corps (NYC) members who are on hunger strike in Srinagar for last 10 days to press for their demand of absorption in the Government sector. However, the truth is that it was the National Conference-Congress coalition regime led by Farooq's son Omar Abdullah that destroyed career of around 6,000 NYCs by passing a half-hearted cabinet order. As the aggrieved NYCs are demanding the PDP-BJP Government to implement a cabinet order passed by the previous regime, little do these innocent youth know that the order itself is a cruel joke played with them. Even if it is implemented, the order would not help in mitigating their sufferings. The cabinet order passed in the end of Omar's six-year tenure in 2014 declared the engagement of 6000 NYCs in Government-run schools in the State. The order (No. 737-Edu of 2014, dated 22/10/2014) accorded sanction to upgradation of 468 middle schools to the level of high schools and 332 high schools to the level of higher secondary schools. The cabinet also ordered engagement of 10000 CWs including 6000 NYCs for different schools with financial implications of Rs 39.60 crore. At that time, the NYCs hailed the Government decision and appreciated its concerns towards the jobless youth of the state. As Assembly polls were round the corner, the NC-Congress regime passed the order apparently in a bid to lure the NYCs to vote during elections. But it gradually turned out that the order about engagement of the NYCs was passed with a callous attitude. The order which the cabinet passed reads: "The order is issued subject to the approval/concurrence of the Planning/Finance Department for the creation of these posts." Government sources said the cabinet order was an "utter disgrace" to the NYCs who were rather deceived by the Government. "This is unnatural that the State cabinet is passing an order and laying conditions on it. The cabinet every time holds meet in presence of the Finance and the Planning Minister. How could then the order be subject to their clearance later?," asked a top official. "It was a deliberate move. The Government played with the future of thousands of NYCs who have now been left in the lurch by the previous regime," he said. "Even if the cabinet order of the 2014 is implemented, it cannot help these protesting NYCs as the order itself is subject to the clearance of the Finance and Planning Ministry. Both the Ministries at present can cite the economic crunch being faced by the State and can keep the order in limbo," the official said. "It was the sadistic attitude of the Omar Government which has destroyed the future of these youth. The cabinet order is in itself a proof of such actions," he added. |
