Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 10: As the police headquarters (PHQ) has almost made up its mind to again post Uttam Chand as SSP, Jammu, a delegation of some people today called on divisional commissioner here and opposed the move, if any.
He was SSP, Jammu, when the trouble had over four months back gripped Satwari over the killing of a youth in police firing on some people, who were protesting against the police act of removing Bhinderawala's posters from the area. As the protests turned violent thereafter and Satwari had to be placed under curfew, he was transferred.
While SP (rural) was given the additional charge of SSP, Jammu, he had proceeded on protest leave. PHQ, however, wanted to post him again as SSP, Jammu, as it was convinced that Chand was not to be held guilty for the firing.
In the recent cabinet meeting, his name was said to have been discussed by some ministers for his posting as SSP, Jammu. When contacted, a home department official said he had yet not received any order as regards the posting of Chand in Jammu.
Meanwhile, a delegation of some people today called on the divisional commissioner and opposed any move to again post Chand as SSP, Jammu, according to official sources.
Sources said Chand, who was on leave, came back here on Wednesday and met his seniors. He was now waiting for the orders of his department and the government as well for his posting.
While the stage was now almost set for his posting as SSP, Jammu, the government wanted to make it sure that there were no protests as and when he was posted here.
