Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 10: A senior BJP leader is pressuring Jammu University authorities to increase intake capacity for Ph D in Library and Information Sciences so that his relative, who has failed to secure admission, joins the programme. Well-placed sources told Early Times that the BJP stalwart, who is himself a professor in SKUAST-Jammu, is using his political affiliation to change the varsity norms. "There are two seats in the Library and Information Sciences for Ph D, and the department invited applications to fill the posts two months ago but the relative of the BJP leader could not secured admission," said sources. "Now using his political link the BJP leader has been pressuring the Vice Chancellor Dr R D Sharma to get his relative admitted for the Ph D programme. "In order to oblige the BJP leader, the VC is pressuring the faculty members to increase the intake capacity for the Ph D programme," said sources. They said the VC also called a meeting of the Department Research Committee and faculty members. "The VC pressurized HoD Library and Information Sciences, Prof Sangeeta Gupta, to take in two more scholars, while Dr. Meghna Dhar of same department was also pressurized to admit one scholar," said sources. "Since there are only two seats and the relative of BJP leader falls on number five, the university administration is trying to change rules to appease him," sources added. The VC could not be contacted for his comment. |
