VC SKUAST- J inaugurates fish ponds | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 10: SKUAST- J Vice Chancellor Professor Pradeep Kumar Sharma today inaugurated fish ponds for initiation of fish production and Research activities here at Chatha Campus. Nine fish ponds have been constructed under the PMSG scheme, which is conducive for such activities as the ground water table is just 1.5 meter below the surface. The fishery activity has been made part of Farming System Research Centre, which was already working on it as a part of Integrated Farming System model. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor informed that Integrated Farming System is right approach for increasing the profitability and livelihood security to the farmers of the Jammu region in which fish farming plays a vital role for boosting the economic activity in the potential areas of the farm land. He appreciated the efforts of Dr. Dileep Kachroo, Chief Scientist and Head along with his staff for undertaking the activity. "IFS model designed and validated by the scientists of the centre under the supervision of Dr. Kachroo comprising of crop, Horticulture, dairy, fish cum poultry cum duckery, vermi-compost, Apiary unit, bio gas, mushroom unit and boundary plantation is the need of the hour for the farmers. Who are facing the problems due to climatic change, as the developed model by this university serves the purpose of realizing the three fold profit from the unit land besides provides the regular income to the small and marginal farmers throughout the year. |
