Early times reports
Doda, Sept 10: It seems that the concerned authorities have turned a blind eye to the safety of residents, as the city roads are fast turning into death traps as several ditches and manholes without covers are a common sight posing danger to the lives of residents even in front of administrative blocks which witnesses the chairs of heads of various departments.
Open manholes, big potholes and even ditches can be seen on the main as well as on the links roads, making residents vulnerable to accidents anytime but who cares for common masses?
Despite the fact that many people have already fallen victim to such deathtraps yet the civic body or any other agency has not paid any heed to the safety of residents.
Several people are affected in Doda Town in front of Administrative area that wreaked havoc in the state. "Two years have passed since damaged the civic infrastructure in Doda, but the administration or concerned Department is yet to ignored for repair the footpaths in parts of the city that were either damaged, locals lamented.
They said the threat of injuries to pedestrian and increase in accidents has further increased with the appearances of ditches on footpath of roads in front of office of SSP Doda and in front of District Court Complex Doda due to damaged footpaths which have not been repaired by the authorities yet.
"The footpaths were severely damaged by the floods but they have not been repaired till now, said Irfan Rather a local resident while adding, "this is the most visited and crowded area, but none is bothered to maintain it besides 'danger of falling' pedestrian are open to pungent smell as the area stinks a lot due to piles of garbage littered around.
A slight rainfall leads to overflowing of sewage on roads while manholes are not repaired properly creating problems for the general public and traders in the area.
The locals also said the problem becomes worst during rain and snow and sought intervention of concerned authorities which yet have turned a blind eye towards repairing the footpaths.
