CM launches Model School Scheme | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 10: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed inaugurated the state's first government model school in Basohli on Thursday, marking the launch of the government's flagship Model School Scheme. "I am happy we are making a new beginning from Basohli and Jammu, from where we will take this movement to other parts of the state," Sayeed said. "We have launched a new movement for providing quality education to students. Unless we make strides in the education sector, we cannot progress on any other front". Accusing the previous governments of ignoring the educational sector, Sayeed also said his government would take steps to bring up quality of education in the state, starting with upgrading infrastructure of schools in the state. "Model schools will have to adopt primary schools in their catchment areas to inculcate new concepts of teaching to students early in their career," he said. Under the scheme, the government aims to convert 113 of the existing 220 government higher secondary schools into model schools in the first phase of the scheme. The state government has earmarked Rs 16.50 crore for smart classrooms and state-of-the-art computer labs in these schools. The Chief Minister will inaugurate two more model schools in the Kashmir valley soon. |
