BGSBU to resume post graduate classes | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 10: To avoid confrontation with the agitating students of B Tech who are on strike to send the `tainted' Registrar on forced leave till pending inquiries into scholarship scam/financial irregularities, administration of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has decided to resume classes for Post Graduate Departments from September 12 (Saturday). The Registrar has issued an order on Wednesday directing Dean of Students to start hostel/mess facilities. Important to mention that on August 25 BGSBU had closed the university after unrest on part of students of BTech who were on indefinite strike demanding to send the Registrar on forced leave, audit of CD-2 , SOD-1 and SB-287 accounts of the university, apprehending large scale misuse of university funds under these accounts. Immediately after the beginning of new semester in the first week of August, students of B Tech boycotted their classes and started protest demonstrations demanding removal of Registrar and action against other officials, if involved in the scholarship scam/financial irregularities. BGSBU administration replaced the Registrar and the students called off their strike on August 22 and again started indefinite strike on August 24 when they saw that instead sending the ex-Registrar on leave he joined his duties as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the office of Vice Chancellor. As the situation was becoming grim day by day , BGSBU Administration closed the university on August 25 and the decision was resented by the students, parents , members of civil society, intellectuals etc . On Friday a search committee for the appointment of new Vice-chancellor, headed by Prof Amitabh Mattoo noted academic and Advisor to Chief Minister, is visiting BGSBU to interact with the HODs and Deans of various departments reportedly to know how to come out from present crises as BGSBU is presently embroiled in a scholarship scam/financial irregularities. The committee will also try to know about the individuality of the new VC that will be acceptable to these university officials. Prof Matoo is likely to address the teaching staff and other high ranking officers of the university and will also deliver a lecture. Meanwhile , students have expressed their resentment over the delay tactics adopted by the University administration in conducting regular classes of every department. "It seems that the official concerned are more worried in saving the corrupt officials and are least bothered about the future of the students who have spend hard earned money of their parents spent on their admissions," said a student. |
