Sunderbani, Sept 10: Within tall claims of road connectivity in forward areas by various political parties a bridge of strategic importance between Tehsil Siot and tehsil Beripattan of zone Sunderbani in Nowshera of Rajouri district is in doldrums for the last 5 years, reasons better known to authorities at the helms of affairs.
The construction of bridge was started during the previous PDP-Cong govt with great fan fare and the then Minister of State and MLA of the constituency Dr Ramesh Sharma but the except a pillar the bridge project is in air.
Ex Yuva Morcha leader Vikas Sharma alleged that the government has deliberately ignored Siot locality and added that the locals have called many a times to various leaders and even to the current elected member parliament from Jammu-Poonch, Lok Sabha segment jugal kishore and elected local member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Ravinder Raina but all in vain. "Although the duo has assured for due action in regard to re-start of construction work for this bridge, but the work yet has to be started, he added.
He recalled that the present MLA Ravinder Raina had assured the peoples that the work over the bridge would likely to be started by March 31, but that assurance confined to a dream only.
Aggrieved locals from the both tehsils viz. Siot and Beri Pattan lamented that the R&B Department has handed over the project for construction of bridge to M/s Satvir Gupta & Co but the private players I yet looking for the due official nod and the project is in doldrums till date.
Whatever the reasons behind the brushing aside from needed project by different political leaders including present MLA but locals believe once the government seriously takes up the case of bridge it will certainly connect two separated tehsils and shortens the distance for the villagers who otherwise had to travel a long distance.
Pertinently one engineer with R&B Department on anonymity said that construction company is ready to take on the job but the approach road is not in a position to ferry the heavy machinery.
The company has put the condition that it would start the work after the approach road is completed. Meanwhile for the construction of 80 Mts long bridge Rs 3.12 Cr has been sanctioned by the government but the winds are not favorable till now for this ambitious project.
