NSS Unit of GCW Gandhi Nagar celebrates Int’l World Yoga Day | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 1: While joining the nation and world to pay homage to apostle of peace - Mahatma Gandhi, the NSS Unit of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar celebrated International World Yoga Day here today. On this occasion, a symposium and a quiz competition on life and works of Mahatma Gandhi organized. Principal of College, Dr. Kiran Bakshi who was chief guest on the occasion said that there is urgent need to opt the Gandhianway of life from individual to international level for achieving sustainable peace in the world. The students especially NSS Volunteers can play pivotal role in spreading the message of truth and non-violence among the communities, she said. The programme started by paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and his bhajan 'Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram...'. An NSS Volunteer read the message of UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon wherein he said 'At a time of escalating conflicts, violent extremism, displacement and humanitarian need, the courage and determination of Mahatma Gandhi, whose birth anniversary we celebrate today, is an inspiration for us all.' In the symposium Radika Bali of B.A part 3rd bagged first prize and Ruqaya Qazi of semester 3rd stood second whereas Sabha Sarwar of B.Sc Semester 2nd and Deenjali Salathia of B.A. semester 1st shared the third prize. The NSS Programme officers Prof. Amitpal kour and Prof. Neelam Bhagat served as judges in the symposium. Earlier, Dr. Ashaq Malik, NSS Program Officer, introduced the audience about the programme. In the end, a quiz competition based on random questions from the topics covered during symposium was also organized. NSS volunteer Uzma Kohli conducted the proceedings of the programme. |
