Bukhari macadamizes road to his Rangreth factory, allege R&B officials | Spends Rs 1 cr to give son runway like connectivity | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 1: Even as the busy main roads across Srinagar have not been repaired after the devastative 2014 floods, the R&B Minister Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari is alleged to be getting the road leading to his family-owned factory at SIDCO Industrial Estate macadamized on priority. Official alleged that around one crore rupees were being spent on the ongoing macadamization of roads inside the industrial estate, which should not have been the priority as the roads there were already blacktopped and needed minimal repairs. "But he(Bukhari) directed us to macadamize the roads afresh in a way as if they had to be macadamized for the first time," alleged a senior official in the R&B, adding that the road height has been increased by around nine inches to one feet. "Such kind of a macadamization is a record in itself and if any credible investigating agency probes it, the alleged muck of political interference will be exposed," said the official pleading anonymity. He alleged that the political interference was visible to anyone who enters the Rangreth industrial estate. Right from the main gate, anyone who follows newly laid smooth runway like road inside the industrial estate, he will reach FIL Industries, the factory owned by the Bukharis, because that happens to be at the dead end of the road in the estate. Insiders alleged that Bukhari got the macadamization done out of the way only to please his son Junaid Altaf Bukhari who is the Director FIL Industries. "Junaid is fond of driving costly cars and had asked his father to construct runway like road for smooth drive inside the industrial estate because otherwise he would feel inconvenience," alleged the insiders. There were business interests also in the macadamization. The FIL Industries has roped in two Mumbai-based companies for online marketing of apples which the Bukharis procure from Kashmir. "The Mumbai team was scheduled to visit the FIL office so Bukharis wanted their drive to be hassle free in the estate," said the insiders, alleging that the only reason behind the macadamization was "vested interests of the Bukhari family." But to keep the R&B Minister happy, the department had to sacrifice repairs of some of the important roads including that in Batamaloo, which lies dilapidated since September 2014 floods and leads to massive traffic jams in the area. "We don't have money even for much needed patch work near General Bus Stand Batamallo, which witnesses major jams whereas we managed mere partial macadamization of busy NallahMar Road but in case of industrial estate Rangreth we remained helpless and exhausted our coffers only to please Ministar Sahib," the official alleged. "Otherwise," he said, "patch work could have sufficed the need road repairs, if any needed in the industrial estate." "Rangreth being a plateau was never affected by September floods and happens to be high-land where roads witness least wear and tear, so such a macadamization was just not needed there and preference should have been given to the flood hit areas," the official said. All attempts to contact Bukhari went in vain. Meanwhile people have appealed to the Union Ministry for Roads lad by Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to get the matter probed. |
