JKCL Samba plant inaugurated for fourth time! | | | Muhammad Mukaram Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 1: The state owned J&K Cements Limited has once again inaugurated its Samba plant for the fourth time since it was set up. The 300 metric ton capacity plant was inaugurated on September 20 by the Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakesh . Earlier the plant was inaugurated by MLA Samba Devinder Kumar Manyal. Ironically, before Manyal, the plant was inaugurated by then Industries and Commerce Minister Sajad Kitchloo and SS Slathia on October 19, 2014 even when the unit was far from completion. The unwarranted haste shown by Kitchloo to inaugurate the plant was severely criticized that time. The latest inauguration of the plant has taken place even as the JKCL is running into huge losses from last several years, and the corporation had to spend lakhs of rupees to hold the inauguration functions. As much as Rs 3 lakh were alleged to have been spent on each inaugural function, sources told Early Times. "What was the fun of spending huge amount on re-inauguration of the Samba plant which was inaugurated thrice previously? Sources asked. Notably, dozens of former employees of the corporation are still waiting for their GP Fund and other things after their retirement. "For last couple of years my arrears are pending with the JKCL. I have visited the head office many times but the officials say they have no funds," said Ali Mohammad, a former employee. JKCL's Managing Director has not deposited the Central Provident Fund (CPF) which amounts to crores of rupees in the accounts of around 800 employees from last ten months. Also, the lives of workers of JKCL at cement plant Khrew are on high risk as the authorities have failed to submit Life Insurance Cover (LIC) policy in the accounts of the workers. |
