Rana, others caught between devil and the deep sea | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 1: With NC, which has already shown to the people its anti-Jammu face by submitting a bill in the Legislative Assembly seeking decriminalisation of cow slaughter in the state, now preparing to recapture the otherwise lost constituency of Kashmir through politics on the 'beef row', problems are surely to mount for MLA Devinder Rana and other Jammu NC leaders in the days to come. It would be virtually difficult for Rana and other NC leaders of Jammu to show their faces to the people here. Cow is a sacred animal for Hindus who have given her the status of a mother. Standing by Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mian Altaf and Mohammad Akbar Lone, who had on September 16 last submitted the bill in the assembly secretariat, Rana and other Hindu leaders of NC would definitely land in trouble. How would they face the people of Jammu? This question is being asked by almost every Jammuite nowadays. This remains to be seen if Rana and other Hindu leaders would silently bear with the disrespect shown to the Mother Cow by their Kashmiri leaders or revolt to save her from the butchers in the state. Jammuites would very carefully keep an eye on their role on the issue in the assembly session that begins on October 3. By submitting the bill against beef ban in the state by a High Court order, NC, which has otherwise no reasonable issue to revive itself in the valley, seems to have made up its mind to exploit the issue to the fullest to again occupy some space in the valley politics. In J&K, the sale of beef is banned under sections, 298-A, 298-B, 298-C and 298-D of RPC. However PDP's ally in government, Bharatiya Janata Party has cautioned against any move to amend the law banning sale of beef. The issue of ban on sale of beef is likely to dominate the proceedings during the upcoming autumn session of the State Legislature. |
