Formation of Jammu based regional party on cards | | | Early Times Report jammu, Oct 7: Disappointment of Jammu people for the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party as well as failure of Congress to revive itself is all set to evolve a Jammu based regional political outfit as some veteran leaders of this region are seriously contemplating for the same. According to the sources in political circles, some former Ministers and legislators of Congress as well as a few senior leaders from ruling BJP, who are feeling disillusioned over power hungry face of the saffron brigade, are in touch with each other over the formation of new regional party. Several social organizations of Jammu and a number of political personalities from different outfits have so far been approached with regard to the idea and there has been a tremendous response, although no formal decision has yet been taken in this regard, sources added. Even as a proposal for merger of Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party in the proposed regional party has also been informally conveyed to the JKNPP chairman Harshdev Singh, sources said that the response was negative. The idea of floating this regional outfit to create a pressure group for taking care of Jammu's political aspirations and interests of people from this region, was mooted recently following beef ban controversy while the successful shut downs over the AIIMS issue encouraged the advocators, sources explained. As BJP is avoiding to take a clear stand over the beef ban controversy due to its compulsion of being in power, the opposition Congress in J&K is also divided over the issue. While the Valley based Congress leaders are in favour of adopting a soft and flexible stand on the issue, former Minister Sham Lal Sharma purportedly dared to quit the party if any compromise is made on enforcement of law in this regard. A prominent leader, who is instrumental in formation of proposed regional party, hints that a formal announced for the new outfits would be made as soon as a few more mass based leaders from Jammu are roped in. |
