People peeved over 'potable water scarcity' in, around Udhampur city | | | Ashwani Sharma Early Time Report Udhampur, Nov 17: The peoples of Udhampur in urban and the rural localities are facing problems due to shortage of water supply as many a time the water supply is suspended for days together affecting the day to day life of the locals. Locals citing examples of various localities said that the Housing Colony Udhampur where affluent people used to live is also facing the same water scarcity. The residents of housing colony Phase -I Udhampur alleged that they have raised the matter to the concerned authorities repeatedly but only assurances are given to them. Ram Rattan Magotra resident of this colony told early Times that there are some odd hundred houses in this colony catering a population of over thousand but the drinking water supply is completely irregular and could be termed as negligent as compared to the populace living in the colony. Another resident Rakesh Kumar alleged that things have turned worst since some of residents illegally have installed water pumps directly to the PHE water supply pipes and thus depriving others to get their due share of water supply. "But the department yet has failed to take action against such erring people and this has become a major problem for the other who live at the last end of the colony. Residents of this colony also alleged that the acute water supply problem especially in the last end of colony forces many families to purchase water from private water tankers despite paying the water tariff regularly. When contacted AEE-PHE, Rajinder Gupta said the department will take due action against people who are using pumps directly to PHE pipes and we (department) will try to regulate the water supply in the areas where the shortage has been complained. |
