Health Minister opens lavish office next to ICU, SSH | | | ET Report JAMMU, Nov 17: Health Minister’s another adventurous venturing by opening his office next to ICU on the fourth floor of Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu has sent a very despising message to the general public at large as well as to the doctors community in particular. Entire doctors' fraternity, which, barring few close to his confidence, since the taking of department by Health Minister of the State, are working under fear psychosis that has already brought the quality of health service to its lowest ebb. "Nine months down the line, since Health Minister has taken over, he has unleashed a reign of terror among the doctors on insignificant issues like wearing of aprons, or molesting the lady doctors in full public view instead of having brought in some legislation or development schemes to boost the Health Department," said one of the lady doctor, fearing to name herself. She said that now opeing his office adjacent to ICU would be a great impediment to the critical care patients rushed to the ICU as most of the time the emergency lift would be occupied for Minister and his men's commuting. She also said that 'fish-market' like obvious scene getting created adjacent to ICU would be a great spoiler for the patients needing rest and silence. She also questioned the need of holding office inside the hospital, when the Minister is supposed operate from Civil Secretariat. "If Minister sits in the hospital, he will be followed by his followers, aggrieved persons, security and other party workers, which will hamper smooth functioning of the ICU ward, which not only needs silence but hygiene and less people trespassing," she said and added the opening of the office adjacent to the ICU ward is altogether unnecessary move. Taking dig at the concerned ministry, doctors said that being in hospital and expecting to operate it in a better way is utopia. "Minister is technically illiterate when it comes to functioning of the hospitals, therefore sitting in hospital will affect the efficiency of the doctors, who cannot execute their duties freely with the fear of Minister," they said and added if the Minister believes that sitting in the hospital will help running health system normally, than every Minister must do this. "If going by this proposition, law Minister must open office in court and interfere in the judging process. Education Minister should sit in schools. Agriculture Minister must open office in fields and so on," they said and added is just envious to previous Minister Taj-Mohi-Udin, who also opened up separate office in the hospital, besides having one in Civil Secretariat. It is pertinent to mention here that Health Minister denied using office of the Taj Mohi-Udin, which was opened up in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) during his tenure. "Mechanical Engineering Wing of the concerned division of Public Works Department (PWD) spend around Rs 25 lakhs to prepare sweet room for the Minister which rather would be kept for some medical purpose," said doctors and added that if the Minister was really concerned about the health system, he would have dedicated this space for some ward, as hospitals in the State are already overburdened and he could get his room ready in the underground floor of the hospital where there is already rooms of all the officials of the administration and it too have separate way from back side of the hospital. |
