4 years on, Education Dept fail to identify land for girls' hostel under RMSA 11/18/2015 12:04:01 AM G S Asgotra Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 17: Education department has failed to identify land for the construction of girls' hostel which was sanctioned by Union government under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in backward districts of Jammu and Kashmir nearly four years back. Source in department on condition of anonymity said that in financial year 2011-12, the Union government had sanctioned 19 girls' hostels in the backward districts of Jammu and Kashmir but after lapse of more than three years, neither the state government nor the concerned ministry has so far identified the land for the construction of girls' hostel. Castigating the callous approach of the education department, the source further said that despite allocation of funds for the construction of hostels, the process of construction of hostels is yet to be executed due to lackadaisical approach of the department concerned. A retired official of RMSA said that observing the drop rate in school level especially in girls' students, the government of India had declared the girls' hostel in most backward area of Jammu and Kashmir, so that the girls' students get the opportunity to complete their secondary education but owing to non seriousness toward girls education, still the department has not identified the land. "The callous approach of concerned department could be gauged from the fact that besides girls' hostels, the GOI also sanctioned upgradation of 110 high schools across the state and also provided one crore for infrastructure creation under same Abhiyan but no work has been completed so far", said an official of the deptt wishing anonymity. Lambasting on slow work pace of the department, he said that so far neither the state government developed Model School nor took up upgradation of high school which is sanctioned by union government under RMSA.
