Allow rehriwallahs to operate from Trikuta Nagar, politicians tell police | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 17 : Political leaders are pressurizing the police to allow rehriwallahs to run their rehri (handcart) in close vicinity of posh Trikuta Nagar area of the winter capital. The flow of recommendations increased after a police officer ordered lifting of unauthorized rehries in and around posh localities of the city but the officer has refused to entertain such requests of the influential people and is not allowing any rehriwallah to operate in such high end areas. During the course of the rehri seizure drive, the police came to know that money was being charged from rehri owners to continue their business. According to reliable information, the police officer conducted a concerted drive to flush out the rehri operators in Trikuta Nagar and Railway Station. Under this campaign, the police either seized number of rehries or asked several rehriwallahs to close down their rehries operating in the area, however, some of the rehriwallahs through their powerful contacts including politicians started pressurizing the officer for allowing them to operate their rehries. The police officer is receiving several phone calls of political leaders requesting him to allow the rehriwallahs to run their rehries but till now the officer has not relented to any such pleas and is not ready to buckle any kind of pressure mounted on him from different quarters. |
