ICC Seniors, JKP XI script wins on opening day | Former IGP Ashok Gupta inaugurates Veteran T20 Cup | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 17 : The ICC Seniors XI and JKP XI won opening day matches in the 2nd JKP New Year Twenty20 Cup which was inaugurated by retired IG of J&K Police, Ashok Gupta at Parade Ground, here today. In all, six teams are taking part in this event, organised jointly by J&K Police and Aircel. Earlier, speaking on the inaugural of the tournament, the chief guest lauded the efforts of the organizers. He said that this will help in making good relations among the officers of different departments. He also said that he feels young and happy to see the senior cricketers in action and for their sports men spirit. Earlier, in the opening match, ICC Seniors defeated Aircel XI by a huge margin of 74 runs. Batting first, ICC Seniors made 160 runs in stipulated 16 overs for the loss of five wickets with Riaz Ahmad (40) and Surjeet Singh (39) being main contributors to the total. Nikhil Dev Singh and Baldeep Singh took two wickets each from Aircel XI, while Sunil Sambyal bagged one. In reply, Aircel XI could not made 86 runs losing all their wickets in 14.2. Sunil Sambyal remained top scorer with 26 runs, while Rakesh contributed 17 runs. Satwant Singh was the main bowler from ICC, who clinched four important wickets, while Surjeet Singh secured two. For his all round performance, Surjeet Singh was adjudged man of the match. In the second match, JKP Seniors XI scripted a six-wicket win against Civil Servants XI. Batting first, Civil Servants scored 131 runs in given overs game with Ajaz Ahmad 63 runs and Zubair Ahmad 17 being main batsmen. Rajesh Gill took three wickets while Naresh bagged two. Later, JKP Seniors chased the target in 15 overs by losing four wickets. Danny, Farooq and Naresh were main scorers who made 53, 12 and 11 runs respectively. Ajaz bagged two wickets from Civil Servants XI. Danny of JKP was adjudged man of the match. Today's matches conducted by Saleem Ur Rehman, Sadiq Hussain, Sandeep Manchanda, Vinod, Sunil and Danny. |
