Sabhi Club takes home Police Martyrs T20 trophy | Remember sacrifices of martyrs, says DGP Rajendra | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, Jan 17 : The formidable side of Sabhi Cricket Club clinched the VIth edition of the J&K Police Martyrs Twenty20 Cricket Tournament trophy outplaying Akshay Star Cricket Club in the final played at Sports Stadium, here. On the basis of their performance, Deepak Punia was declared man of the match while man of the series trophy went to Rahul Tewatia of Akshay Club. Rahul was presented the keys of car as a special prize, sponsored by Satyam Cement and TMT Sariya owned by Lait Aggarwal and Devender Verma . In the final and valedictory of the mega event, Director General of J&K Police, K Rajendra Kumar was chief guest, who gave away the title trophies as also other individual prizes amidst cheers from a big crowd of cricket fans. The event, wherein 16 teams contested for the top honours from within an outside the state, was jointly organised by the Kathua Police and Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua. Speaking to the gathering, the DGP said that J&K Police has been focussing on promoting sports activities in the state and the organization has been providing logistic support to the talented youngsters to provide them opportunities to hone their skills in the field of sports. He further said that police organization besides its professional duties is promoting sports culture in the State and the motive behind this is to provide platform to the youth to achieve excellence in the field so that they could compete at national and international levels. He said that the organization has chalked out the sports calendar for the year 2016 and different tournaments of various sports events would be organized at different places across the State. The DGP said that the activities have helped enthusing the youth of the State for greater participation in sports. He said that the events have served as a bridge of understanding and good will between the people and police. Paying tributes to police martyrs, he said that sacrifices of these martyrs have made JKP proud and their sacrifices will not be forgotten. Earlier, IGP Jammu Zone, Danish Rana gave brief resume of the tournament. He said that to make the event a success the organizing committee had made good arrangements for maintenance of playing fields and also proper sanitation in and around the venues. He said that players from outside the State were provided boarding and lodging facilities by the department. Among the others, the closing ceremony was attended by DIG JKS Range, Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, SP Kathua, Neeva Jain, District Development Commissioner, Romesh Kumar, Principal PTS Kathua, Sanjeev Khajuria, CO CRPF 121 Bn, SS Rana, Additional SP Kathua, Nasir Ahmed, Chairman CTM Kathua, KC Sharma, president District Industries Association, Ajit Bawa, prominent Industrialists, prominent citizens, families of martyrs and large gathering of cricket lovers. |
