Estates Department may ask former BJP ministers to vacate official residences | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 30: With the imposition of Governor’s rule since January 8 and no signs of government formation to be seen, the Jammu and Kashmir Estates Department may ask the former BJP ministers to vacate their official residences. The Estate Department has so far not initiated any action on ground zero to vacate the official bungalows occupied by the former ministers of BJP but in days, they will be served notices to vacate them, official sources here today said. They said that the former ministers are entitled to stay in the accommodation only for a period of one month and are supposed to vacate the buildings at the end of the stipulated period. The former BJP ministers have surrendered their official accommodations and privileges as they continue to enjoy even after the imposition of the Governor’s rule, they added. Pertinent to mention here that the family members of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed too had vacated the official residence of Chief Minister in Jammu and shifted his personal belongings to his Srinagar based house. However, former Deputy Chief Minister and senior cabinet ministers are all occupying ministerial bungalows at Wazarat Raod, Canal Road, Rehari and Gandhi Nagar areas in this winter capital. Hope the crisis comes to an end but in the absence of any positive signs on early government formation, they may have to vacate their accommodation in the first week of February failing which they will be asked to vacate the same, sources added. The process of government formation however, remained stalled amid reports that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti wants the BJP to agree to her demands before the parties share power again in the state. According to sources, Mehooba has sought assurance from the BJP top brass that she should be given a free hand in running the government. Engaging separatists in the talks process, vacation of private lands by the security forces and handing over of Centre-owned projects to the state government are among other demands of the PDP Chief, sources asserted. The PDP president however, had also cancelled the party meeting scheduled for February 3 in Jammu but will go ahead and chair the meeting in Srinagar on January 31. |
