Burglars on theft spree, police clueless | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 30: A sudden surge in the incidents of burglaries in the city and on its outskirts has gripped people in a state of panic as series of thefts for the past two weeks have raised a big question mark on police efficiency since it has failed miserably in maintaining law and order which is one of the paramount duties of the men in khaki. That burglars were striking literally at will became evident on the intervening night of January 28 and 29 when they committed as many as seven thefts in several localities in and around the city. While some burglars struck at the house of one Ajit Singh in Janipur Colony, which is under the jurisdiction of Police Station, Janipur, from where they decamped with valuables and cash worth thousands of rupees, in almost similar fashion, another group of thieves managed to run away with cash, jewellery and valuable items from the residence of Dilip Kumar Koul at Muthi, which falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station, Domana. The height of inattentiveness of police could be gauged from the fact that it was the sixth incident of burglary in Muthi area but they have failed to solve any of them so far. Apart from the thefts at Janipur and Muthi, the burglars also struck at a grocery store at Gujjar Nagar, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station, Pir Mitha, and decamped with cash worth thousand rupees as well as eatables. Ironically, the location of the shop is just opposite the police naka on Gujjar Nagar Bridge. The thieves also burgled four shops in a row at Bari Brahmana which again reflected the inattentiveness of the men in khaki. While the burglars managed to break into a readymade garments shop of one Suresh Kumar and decamp with cash worth Rs 40,000, a garland of currency notes worth Rs 10,000 and other items, they also broke into Rajesh Gupta's cloth store adjacent to the Suresh's shop and fled away with cash and other items. The burglars also struck at the shops of Sanjay Gupta and Vishal Gupta from where they again managed to steal cash and valuables worth thousands of rupees. As if the law and order machinery was sleeping, they also struck at Jammu Railway Station Parking and stole from there a taxi bearing registration No JK02J-3063. This has become a cause of worry for security agencies as the cab could be used to carry out terrorists.
