Tasaduq's candidature for Anantnag LS seat finalised | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 1: In a bid to introduce Tasaduq Mufti in Kashmir's political landscape, the PDP has initiated a massive campaign in South Kashmir to assess whether Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's 44-year-old son could emerge victorious in case he contests parliamentary polls from the region. As Mehbooba Mufti's elevation as the 13th chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir is in the offing, the parliamentary seat that Mehbooba has to surrender, would go for re-elections in near future. Mehbooba has suggested the name of her brother, Tasaduq Mufti, as a candidate for the Anantnag parliamentary seat. The party is of the opinion that if Tasaduq contests from South Kashmir, considered as PDP's bastion, there are high chances of retaining this parliamentary constituency. Now, when the government formation is likely to take place any time, ground is being prepared for the former cinematographer to jump into the poll fray. Sources within the party divulged that the party in its recently held meet discussed the modalities involved in Tasaduq's nomination as the PDP candidate for the Anantag parliamentary seat. "If Mehboobaji assumes office of the chief minister, it is quite natural that she has to surrender the parliamentary seat of Anantnag. There is no candidate as promising as Tasaduq for the South Kashmir's parliamentary seat," says the party leader. Meanwhile, there are also conformed sources revealing that the party activists and workers are on tenterhooks, conducting the underdog activities to seek public opinion about PDP's popularity on ground in Anantnag. Sources said that there are already several opinion polls conducted by the party in which it is being ascertained that whether Tasaduq's candidature would prove useful for the party during the parliamentary elections, being conducted after Mehbooab's elevation as CM. Tasaduq, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's only son in the recent statement had indicated that he would be joining the active politics in the state and would strive to realize the dream of his late father. He had also stated that he has several plans for the state and he would be implementing them to make the state of Jammu and Kashmir a prosperous one during the times ahead. Furthermore, party insiders believe that most of the PDP leadership is in favour of Tasaduq's candidature and has expressed optimism that he would rejuvenate the party functioning at the grassroots. Pertinently, the reports earlier had revealed that in the recent interview, Mufti's son had expressed his desire to work for the betterment of the sectors which merit Government's highest concern. He had prioritised to work for the betterment of the downtown areas of Srinagar besides adopting Columbia way of the sewerage treatment in the State. "This was my father's vision. My aim is to work and make a little difference in that direction and to realise his dream," Tasaduq was quoted by reports as saying. |
