Pathankot attack: Pak agencies may give clean chit to terrorist Masood Azhar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 1: Nearly a month after terrorists struck at Pathankot airbase in Punjab, Pakistan has said that it needs more evidence from India as the investigating agencies have failed to make any headway in the probe. A retired defence personnel while talking to Early Times said, "Despite India providing vital leads and proofs, Pakistan investigating agencies are trying to shield the people behind the attack and are trying to bury the hatchet." "The team has almost completed its investigation into five cellphone numbers, used for making calls from Pakistan to India, provided by the Indian government. No further leads were found from these numbers because they were un-registered and had fake identities," the Pak investigating agencies claimed. The defence personnel mocked at the explanation being provided by the Pakistan investigating agencies. "We have provided enough evidence which proves the involvement of Jaish terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar. It has been proved beyond doubt that Masood Azhar and his men were masterminds of Pathankot attack. Had Pakistan been sincere it would have handed over Masood Azhar and his associates to India for further investigation," the defence personnel added. Pertinently, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had formed the six-member investigation team headed by the additional inspector general of Punjab`s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the second week of January to look into Indian government`s allegations that the JeM was behind the Pathankot attack. Nawaz Sharif had assured that all the possible efforts would be put to track the attackers and they would be brought to book. "The Pakistan investigating agencies have punctured the tall claims of Nawaz Sharif. Citing lack of evidence proves that investigating agencies are in no mood to act against the attackers," said a defence analyst. He said, "India should stop looking at Pakistan and its investigating agencies. The wise decision at this point of time would be to take a firm decision against terror and hit back. Our forces are capable of entering into Pakistan occupied Kashmir and destroying all the terrorist camps active there. If we fail to act this time round it would encourage the terrorists to strike in India again and bleed us." The analyst said, "Terrorists like Maulana Masood Azhar enjoy the patronage of the Pakistan's secret agency ISI and one cannot expect the ISI to act against its own men." He said that history stands testimony to the fact that Pakistan has always provoked India and has reciprocated the peace moves with violence. "The Pathankot attack happened just a few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised everyone by visiting Pakistan and extended a hand of friendship towards the neighboring country. We have had enough. It's time to act. Our desire for peace is being considered our weakness and we need to prove that we were not weak," the analyst added. |
