Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley likely to meet Mehbooba before taking final call | BJP looks towards NC, offers 'lucrative deal'! | | Government Formation
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 2: Fearing that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may turn the tables on them, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly trying to lure National Conference to avoid the mid term polls in the state and to maintain its grip over the power, sources told Early Times on Tuesday. They claimed that "cold response" of the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has led to BJP exploring all the possible options and BJP leaders are in touch with NC people. "If Mehbooba refuses to take oath and form the government we have to make other options work to prevent midterm polls," said a BJP insider. He claimed that "politics is art of possibilities" and anything is possible. "BJP believes that midterm polls are the last option. NC has got 17 seats and if both the parties join hands democratic government can be put at place," the insider claimed. He said that having a democratic government at place is the "need of the hour" the hard posture adopted by the PDP is making us believe that things are not going to be that easy. The BJP sources said, "We had entered into an alliance with PDP for six years. We have assured the PDP that Agenda of Alliance would be implemented and 10-months are not enough to assess whether it has been implemented or not." NC insiders revealed that they were offered a "best possible deal" by the BJP but party is divided over the issue of forging an alliance with BJP. "No such discussions have taken place officially but BJP had approached NC through back channels to figure out whether the party is interested in joining hands with BJP," revealed a source. BJP insiders said that party high command is contemplating to send senior BJP leaders Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to Srinagar to meet the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti before taking the final call over the issue. "The final decision about whether Singh and Jaitley's visit to Srinagar would be taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah," the insider claimed. "After PDP, National Conference is the only option and we cannot rule them out," the insider added. Sources said that till now BJP has not got any response from the National Conference despite party offering a "lucrative deal" to NC. "The BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir want to retain power at any cost even if they have to change the alliance partner. A few of them believe that offering extra space to PDP can prove detrimental for the party in Jammu region and it would add to its unpopularity," sources added. They said, BJP leaders are aware about the fact that polls at this point of time can spell doom for the party, which had won 25 out of 37 seats in Jammu region in 2014 Assembly polls. "BJP is not leaving any stone unturned and has not ruled out NC as an option," sources claimed. |
