Locals protest over dilapidated Mansar-Battal road, block road

Udhampur, Feb 6: Residents of Mansar today blocked the Mansar-Udhampur road popularly known as Dhar Road to draw the attention of the authorities towards the pathetic condition of the road.
Residents of Battal and Mansar of Majalta tehsil assembled at Battal Morh and blocked the Udhampur -Samba road to register their protest.
Raising slogans against the authorities for their "failure" to repair the damaged road especially from Karkai to Battal, the locals alleged that poor road condition often leaves the daily commuters to suffer. The protestors continued their protest for some hours disrupting normal traffic on the road.
Addressing the protestors, Raj Kumar Sarpanch said that following protest by locals the concerned authorities started black topping and premixing of the said road some days back but all of sudden work was stopped near Karkai which leaves the locals troubled and disturbed.
He and other speakers also added that every day accidents are occurring and people are getting injured due to bad condition of roads, but the authorities concerned are least bothered. They warned the authorities if their demands are not fulfilled soon, they would be forced to intensify their agitation.
Due to protest daily commuters faced lot of inconvenience as majority of Udhampur bound vehicles returned back from spot, number of employees and students could not reach to their destinations.
However Tehsildar and SHO Majalta along other officials reached the spot and pacified the protesters after their hectic efforts. They assured that they would take up natter with higher ups to get the issue resolved within three days. After the assurance from Tehsildar the locals lifted their protest and police restored the normal traffic on the road.
