Mid-term polls: RSS leader not sure of BJP victory in Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 8: Senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar, who functioned as Pranatiya Pracharak in Jammu and Kashmir for several years, is not confident of the BJP victory in Jammu province if mid-term polls are held today in the State. He was on a three-day visit to Jammu. During his visit, he attended various functions and also addressed two seminars, one on Tibet and another organized by the Muslim Rashatriya Manch. When on Sunday asked about the possibility of fresh elections and the BJP's poll prospects in case mid-term polls were held today in the State, he reportedly said: "It's very premature to talk about the issue. Let the first phase (Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir) reaches its conclusion. The other phase can be discussed later". His ambiguous statement clearly suggested that he was not very confident of the BJP's victory in Jammu province. The fact that he made this statement on the day he concluded his visit to Jammu clearly suggested that the feedback that he got during his stay was not very inspiring and promising. He has his persons in Jammu who knew the ground realities and made him aware of them. Indeed, the BJP has become very unpopular because of its various acts of omission and commission, as also because of the fact that it failed to deliver on any front during those ten months when it was part of the coalition Government, headed by Late Mufti Sayeed. It has lost touch with the masses and even today its leadership is busy doing politicking and not really taking up any Jammu-specific issue in order to win over the estranged people of Jammu province. It has lost his face and credibility. It is a different story that BJP MLC Vibodh Gupta on Sunday described the BJP's rule as the "golden period" in the State. Indresh Kumar did the right thing by saying what he said about the mid-term polls and little or no possibility of the BJP repeating its 2014 performance in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. He is an experienced person and he feels the Jammu's pulse as he remained in Jammu for many years and guided the BJP. His vague statement needed to be appreciated considering the anti-BJP wave that has gripped the entire Jammu province. The BJP leadership itself is responsible for the difficult situation it is in. |
