'Nationalist' BJP eager to continue alliance with PDP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 25: BJP has tried to justify its alliance with PDP to form government in J&K citing nationalistic compulsion. The party feels that citing nationalistic compulsion could help the party ward-off the heat it is facing in the Parliament. "It' is a compulsion to have alliance with either NC or PDP to fight separatism in Kashmir," said Finance Minister Arun Jaitely. The finance minister implied that a party with nationalistic outlook has to co-opt even a party in the Kashmir which has shades of separatism to fight the real ground separatism in the valley. BJP is finding itself in a very difficult position for continuing alliance with the PDP after its stand on the JNU where it has positioned itself as the champion of 'Nationalism'. The extreme position of the party came to fore when the HRD minister Smirit Irani in her fiery speech in the LoK Sabha on Wednesday made it clear what the party stand was on this issue . "The BJP has now taken a very extreme position on nationalism, wherein it is again invoking nationalism to cut the teeth of separatism. The party will have to do lot of talking to justify and continue the alliance" said a PDP leader adding, "PDP is silent on government formation which shows which party is more eager for it,'". |
