PDP-BJP alliance again in doubt after LS debate | Rethinking among Central leadership of BJP | | Early Times Report jammu, Feb 25: The State unit of BJP is hopeful that forming Government with PDP after budget session of the Parliament, but Wednesday's debate on Hyderabad Central University and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in the Lok Sabha has forced the party's Central leadership to rethink about going for alliance with PDP. The vociferous counter offensive launched by the HRD Minister, Smiriti Irani has pushed Congress and opposition parties to the wall but BJP faced embarrassment on the Floor of the Lok Sabha when some opposition members questioned Saffron Party's alliance with PDP, whose stand on Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was entirely different from BJP. PDP has been earlier termed hanging of Afzal Guru as "travesty of justice" and party leadership were in forefront in demanding mortal remains of the Parliament attack convict. On Wednesday when debate on JNU controversy was going on, all BJP speakers raked up the issue of Afzal Guru to support Government's action against students for hailing Parliament attack convict. BJP lawmakers availed the opportunity to dub Congress as pro-militants by siding with those who were hailing Afzal Guru but BJP Ministers and other members had maintained a guarded silence when MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi attacked BJP parties over PDP supports Afzal Guru in Lok Sabha and questioned BJP Government over why BJP was going for alliance with PDP who supports Afzal Guru. Similarly some Congress leaders also availed opportunity to push BJP to walls for going for an alliance with PDP, which is indeed not satisfied with hanging of Afzal Guru. Credible sources in the BJP said that after Wednesday's Lok Sabha debate a serious discussions were started among Central leadership of party whether alliance with PDP would put an impact on coming Assembly elections especially of Assam and Uttar Pradesh, where BJP has high stakes. BJP high command has already decided to exploit JNU issue in the coming Assembly elections but there is a fear among party leaders that alliance with PDP would provide ammunitions to the opposition to launch counter attack. |
