Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 25: Two months after CT scan (Computerized Tomography) machine was installed at District Hospital (DH) Ramban, not once it has been put to use as authorities have not cared to post requisite staff to operate the important machine, impelling the patients to travel to GMCH Jammu for scan despite availability of machine. Sources informed Early Times that Director Health Services Jammu had installed CT scan single slice machine worth more than Rs.1 crore procured by state government the previous year but it is still un-operational owing to non-availability of expert to operate the same. "Such type of machine has one of the fastest and most accurate tools for examining the chest, abdomen, pelvis and also helpful to examine patients with injuries from trauma, but in absence of Radiologist the machine is still not operational", sources said. They further said that to run the machine it requires a Radiologist, a trained Technician, one paramedical and one class IV staff but it was very surprising that state government has failed to sanction staff especially for CT scan. Castigating authorities of Health Department sources said, if machine is available in hospital then why department had not posted staff. "The purpose for which the machine was given to this hospital is defeated as the machine is of no use without staff", they said. It is pertinent to mention here that the CT scan was used extensively for accident victims, particularly in detecting injury to the brain. CT scan is done for all accident victims who have sustained head injuries. When contacted Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Ramban, Dr. Saif-ul-Din-Khan accepted and said that the post of Radiologist was lying vacant for years, however there is a trained technician but a technician can only perform a scan but cannot give opinion or report of CT Scan. |
