Guv to punish tainted babus? | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 25: As the list of tainted officials has been submitted by the General Administration Department to the Governor's office, all eyes are now on Governor N.N. Vohra for final decision vis-a-vis axing the officials involved in corrupt practices. If sources are to be believed, list of nearly 40 officers has been submitted to the Governor's office and many of the officials figuring in the list have one or more FIRs registered against them in various cases of corruption. Reliable sources said that immediately after the directions of Governor, the GAD in consultation with the Vigilance Organization had started an exercise to identify the officials who were indulging in illegal practices and have cases registered in the investigating agencies". The list of tainted officials was prepared after examination of proper record of such tainted officers who have one or more FIRs registered in the various cases of corruption, misuse of powers," sources said and added that the list is now lying for further action in Raj Bhawan. Sources however said that the Governor is likely to convene the review meeting before a final decision vis-a-vis axing the officials involved in the corrupt practices. Sources said that Governor has also asked the top officials that the tainted employees must not be given field postings or sent to other departments on deputation. "Governor Sahab wants zero tolerance against corruption," sources said. Governor N.N Vohra after taking over the reins of the State immediately showed his seriousness to call for the list of tainted officials to provide corruption free administration to the general masses, and accordingly the instructions of the Governor in this regard were seen with due care. Sources said that Vohra had also sought separate list of those officers, who are repeatedly indulging in corrupt practices and were not ready to mend their ways. As per the instructions from Raj Bhawan, sources said, "Process was also initiated to identify the corrupt elements within the administration and officials. It is pertinent to mention here that the Governor had directed that decision in all cases pending for sanction of prosecution in various departments should be expedited immediately. The Governor had also directed that all cases due for compulsory review under Article 226 in various departments be placed before the designated committees by March 15. Vohra had also reiterated his earlier directions regarding completion of the Annual Performance Reports of all employees and a report furnished to him by February 29, in regard to each department. The Governor had directed that the General Administration Department should energise the vigilance framework in the State to ensure transparent and responsive public service delivery and asked the Chief Secretary to issue circular directions to all the Administrative Secretaries to personally review all pending vigilance matters in the respective departments and a consolidated report submitted to the Governor on fortnightly basis. |
