Dharmarth Trust opposes Temple Bill | | | Javaid Naikoo
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 13: Terming the long pending temple Bill of Kashmiri Pandits in state legislative assembly a useless move, Dharmarth Trust management claimed that prevailing lobbyism among members of Religious places is responsible for dilapidated condition of temples in Kashmir. On the eve of electing Former Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, B.R Kundal as the new president of Dharmarth Trust run by Dr Karan Singh,General Manager of Dharmarth Trust RL Bhan opposed pending Temples and shrines Bill of Kashmiri Pandits and claimed lack of transparency a responsible factor for dilapidated condition of religious places in Kashmir. Bhan said that many Pandit groups who until recently would make noise on management and functioning of Dharmarth trust have now understood that Trust run with complete transparency is progressing with each passing day. "Lobbyism destroys religious places in Kashmir, if things are done with transparency then there is of need of Bills and laws. We never supported passage of Temple/shrines Bill, we know this move will further prove hazardous for already ruined religious places of Pandits in Kashmir, we know who will be members once this Bill is passed so we don't support it. They told Early Times that people who build castles in air did nothing for Hindu religious places of Kashmir and are involved in brawl amongst themselves over management issues of various famous temples of Kashmir. They claimed re-construction of Khrew Mandir which took fire last year at the cost of Rs 40 lakhs so far and said that Dharmarth trust spent Rs 30 lakhs on construction of Shiv Temple in Rainawari and more than Rs 25 lakhs for spreading accommodation for visitors at Khirbawani temple. Council members of trust said that as part of annual extension B.R Kundal has been appointed by council members as the head of Dharmarth trust for the current year in place of Gen (Retd) RS Jamwal. They said that Jamwal sought to be relieved from his duties which he fulfilled meritoriously for four years due to his personal busy schedule at abroad. As per details received Dharmarth Trust manages over a hundred temples and shrines in Jammu and Kashmir and one each in Himachal Pradesh and Haridwar. The trust was created by Maharaja Gulab Singh in the mid-19th century after he bought Kahsmir and its people for 70 Lakh Nanakshahi. Besides others, it manages such historic temples as the Sri Raghunath Temple complex and Sri Ranbireshwar temple in Jammu and the Sri Shankaracharva and Khir Bhawani temples in Kashmir. Dr Karan Singh is Chairman Trustee while Vikramaditya Singh and Ajatshatru Singh are the Trustees. The five member Dharmarth Council consists of eminent citizens drawn from various walks of life. Many organizations of state run by Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir last year had raised their voice over management issues and accounts handling of Dharmarth trust and the controversy was followed by repeated statements of Karan Singh over the controversy. |
