Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 19: Boulevard road passing in front of Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre is replete with potholes at several places with concerned authority seeming unconcerned about the paramount importance of the road where high level meets of eminent persons of State and the country as well as other national and international cultural events are held.
The sources informed Early Times that boulevard road leading to Mughal gardens Chashma Shahi, Nishat, Shalimar, Harvan etc is of immense attraction for tourists from state and other parts of the country visiting Kashmir and despite huge funds being pumped into Kashmir by the Center government for further boost to tourism, regular maintenance of the road does not capture the attention of concerned authority which can have adverse affects on the tourism prospectus in Kashmir.
The sources further informed that the boulevard road from Dal onward is very congested and vehicles are found parked on the road side with control of the Traffic Department absolutely missing to clear such vehicles which leads to traffic jam putting the tourists and other commuters in piquant situation. Further stating they told that at least government should put the Boulevard road from SKICC to city on one way traffic mode to neutralize traffic congestion at least during peak hours. While interacting with the sources, a group of tourists from Mumbai opined that there should be no plying of any type of vehicle on this road which they witnessed at Mall road Shimla before coming to Srinagar to enjoy the wonders of bewitching weather as well as worldly known beauty of Dal Lake.
Floating their idea of minimizing the rush on the Boulevard road, they said that for the facility of tourists and locals, the present system of transporting commuters should be replaced with the battery operated cabs, which will keep the environment on the Boulevard road free from pollution further said, adding that in view of Kashmir valley being tourist industry, particularly the attraction of historical Boulevard road, the government should focus its attention towards the dire need of conceiving a plan for operation of electric mini train on this road in order to cater to the growing rush of tourists and also make boulevard road along Dal more fascinating to attract huge flow of tourists from various parts of the country and from across the world so that Kashmir is made as one of the best tourist destinations of thr world.
