Cops proving 'easy access' to hawala traders, 'unfair practices' of businessmen | J&K airports despite being sensitive manned by J&K Police…. | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 19: In a sensitive state like J&K where security assumes priority at public places, scene is just opposite at the three airports of J&K where functionality aspect are just antagonistic of what is a norm elsewhere in the country. All the three police stations at Srinagar, Leh and Jammu are being manned and controlled under J&K Police, thanks to a strong and high level lobby which is in favour of continuation of this situation for a 'bigger' purpose. Presence of state police has developed a nexus that allows free access to hawala traders and those indulging in unfair means of business. Sources said there is a strong lobby at the highest level which doesn't allow replacement of J&K Police at the airports for security deployment, making the three sensitive airports exceptional as all over the country it is the CISF which takes care of security at the airports. The deployment of CISF has assumed all the more significance at airports all across the country in view of vulnerability to terror machinations. However, here in J&K despite being highly sensitive and at risk of such precarious situations, J&K Police has not let the control go out of its hands, sources said. While a lobby is not allowing replacement to happen, there is systemic arrangement in place now which is primarily to help hawala traders go scott free at the airports without even mandatory checking, sources said, adding that they are even 'escorted' up to the aircrafts by the Police officers before they board. At both the airports in Srinagar and Jammu there are two inspectors in particular who are 'deployed' specifically for the purpose of giving ' smooth and hassel free access' to businessmen involved in unfair trade practices. Some of these businessmen are rich and affluent, having influence in powerful lobbies and deal in trade of gold and silver, said the sources, adding that the police shelter enables them to evade certain mandatory procedures. Sources further said there is one cop at Jammu airport who has managed stay for over a decade on account of his links at the highest level in the department. It is a strong nexus built over the years at the airports under which police is providing shelter and cover to 'unfair trade' practices in a discreet way as there is no other security agency to detect or check it, leave alone stop it. This particular cop is even surpassing and ditching even senior officers in doing his 'business' in connivance with his 'masters' in the department for their strong vested interests, sources added. |
