Traffic police booths devoid of fans, potable water facility | Cops forced to work under most inhospitable conditions | | Early Times Report
jammu, Apr 19: In view of the soaring temperatures, senior police officers won't be coming out of their AC-fitted cozy offices now to regulate traffic on the city roads, but field staff, including cops, would continue to work under the most inhospitable conditions as most of the traffic booths here are without fans, coolers and drinking water facility. A traffic police booth outside the district police lines here is in the worst condition. It does not have any fan and drinking water facility. It also is devoid of a bench or a chair for the cops to take rest for a while. It is not even illuminated. In the absence of these basic facilities, the cops are forced to work in the scorching heat. While the department had last year announced to make these facilities available to cops in the traffic booths, no headway has been made in this direction so far. Police sources said while some booths had been provided fans and drinking water facility, many others were still without these facilities. SSP Uday Bhaskar Billa said these facilities would be made available to cops at all the traffic police booths at the earliest. It may be mentioned here that there are several traffic police booths in the city and its suburbs that have turned into shelters for stray dogs and other animals, besides beggars. |
