Srinagar, Apr 19: Police today detained Independent legislator from north Kashmir's Kupwara district engineer Abdul Rasheed when he along with his supporters tried to march towards the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti's residence to what they said protest against killings in Handwara recently. Rasheed and his supporters shouting anti government slogans started their protest from Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here and started marching towards the Chief Minister's residence, however Police personnel deployed in the area swung into action and detained Rashid along with his supporters near Gupkar gateway. Before being detained by Police Rasheed told reporters that Mehbooba Mufti should have boycotted Prime Minister,Narendra Modi's function at Katra today. Alleging that Mehbooba Mufti plays double standards, Rasheed said that he along with his supporters as per a scheduled programme wanted to go to Mehbooba's residence and remind her what she used to say when she was not in power and is now playing politics over dead bodies. "If she has some courage, she should not have gone to Katra as a mark of protest, people of Kashmir wanted punishment to the killers of the five people, we want to tell Prime Minister that we do not want to listen to your speeches and if you have courage then arrest those killers."Rasheed said. The slogan shouting protestors carried banners with photographs and images of Mehbooba Mufti and other PDP leaders in Lal Chowk when PDP was in opposition in Jammu and Kashmir. At the time Rasheed along with his supporters were protesting near Gupkar area, Mehbooba Mufti was at Katra to receive the Prime Minister for fifth convocation Shri Mata Vashno Devi University (SMVDU). Authorities have already announced a probe in the civilian killings of Handwara where a teenage girl ruled out molestation charges against one Army personnel in the court of chief judicial magistrate. Five government employees have been suspended in connection with\ Handwara killings so far. The Directions to demolish some bunkers from main Chowk were also ordered by Army following the demand of People of the area. |
