Army chief visits Srinagar for security review | | | Agencies
Srinagar, Apr 19 : Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh visited Srinagar-based Chinar Corps and took stock of the security situation on Tuesday. During his visit, he was accompanied by several other top officers of the Army. Corps Commander, Lt Gen Satish Dua briefed the Army chief about the current situation. This is the second visit by the Army chief in last few days and it is considered important in view of ongoing Handwara turmoil. Following days of violent protests and death of five locals in firing by security forces in Handwara town, three Army bunkers were removed from the area on Tuesday. Meanwhile, police arrested one person in connection with the 'molestation' case, which led to violent protests in the region. Kashmir has been witnessing huge protests since past few days after rumours of the girl having molested by an Army jawan spread across Kashmir. Huge protests erupted last Tuesday after the rumours spread. |
