LMD books six business units for violation of norms at Srinagar airport | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 15: The legal metrology department today booked six commercial establishments at Srinagar Airport for selling articles on exorbitant rates. In a statement, a spokesman of the department said that they been receiving public complaints that the products offered for sale at the airport premises are being sold at exorbitant rates and are not carrying the mandatory declarations on the labels properly as are envisaged under Rules. "A joint team of officers from the Legal Metrology department Budgam and Srinagar led by Joint Controller Kashmir and Deputy Controller (Enforcement) Kashmir conducted a surprise inspection of the premises of Srinagar Airport in co-ordination with Airport Authority Officials and police security. During the inspection the Legal Metrology Officer namely Sheikh Tariq booked six commercial establishments on spot for violation of norms," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that it was found that some juices offered for sale were not carrying proper labeling, stickers were pasted on books for price, imported chocolates were found without MRP, dry-fruit packages were found without any labels and prices on Kashmiri Wazwan packages were found tampered. "Under Legal Metrology laws, it is a serious offence to paste sticker for MRP or for any mandatory declaration or tamper the MRP on the package. Altaf Hussain, Assistant Controller also inspected the weighing scales of different airlines operating from the airport for accuracy and authenticity with the test- weights. The scales were found within the permissible limits of accuracy," said spokesman.
