Education Department: Den of chamchas | DSEK pushes teaching community to edge, remains inaccessible | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 15: The Education Department has turned into a fiefdom of the Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) while all other officers have been rendered defunct, sources told Early Times. They said, "The department on the pretext of being reformed is fast turning into den of chamchas and yes men who hover around their bosses to ensure that they remain in good books of their bosses." Many Masters, who have been posted in far-flung areas continue to serve there irrespective of them having completed their terms, sources added. They said the Masters who approach the DSEK with a plea that they be transferred back have to return empty handed as the incumbent Director School Education Kashmir refuses to meet them. "The second rung officials, who used to handle the affairs of the Masters and teachers have been sidelined and are powerless. Poor teachers and Masters have no one to approach as the DSEK remains inaccessible," insiders said. They said that only those teachers and Masters are entertained who get recommendations from the politicians and influential people. "The people who come with genuine complaints and issues find no one whom they can approach. Even if they apprise the second rung officials it's of no use as these officials have no access to higher ups and higher ups don't listen to them. It's total anarchy," sources added. Insiders claimed the DSEK has passed on the strict instructions to the officers "not to listen to anyone" and oblige only those who could be of any help. "The Education department has become a hub of political activities," they added. Sources said, "Nothing is being done to improve the quality of education in the schools. Reforming and revolutionizing the Education department are just mere slogans aimed at hoodwinking people. The fact is that nothing has changed on the ground. Teachers and Masters have lost interest in their jobs and they are attending their duties for the formality sake." Insiders revealed that by ignoring the government teachers and masters and by not paying any heed towards developing the government schools, the chamchas are providing a chance to private schools to gain the ground. "It seems conspiracy is being hatched to wind up the government run schools. Teachers and Masters are being pushed towards the wall so that they quit their jobs on their own or the higher ups get an excuse to suspend or punish them," they added. Sources claimed if the DSEK keeps on "torturing"` the teaching community they can hit the streets and raise a banner of revolt against the officer. Repeated attempts to contact the Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) provide futile as his number was switched off. |
