Opp gears to take on Govt in Assembly | | | Saqib Junaid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 15: The upcoming session of Jammu and Kashmir legislature beginning from 25 May in summer capital Srinagar is expected to be stormy as the opposition parties National Conference and Congress are gearing up to take on the PDP-BJP coalition on sensitive issues and controversies which have hit the state over the last two months. The session will be a testing time for the first time chief minister of the state Mehbooba Mufti with the Opposition all set to corner the government over the number of issues including the killing of five civilians in Kupwara, security related issues at NIT Campus, setting of Sainik Colony for ex-Army officers in the Valley, leasing out of land to the outside industrialists as per the New industrial Policy 2016. Besides the Jammu based political parties are likely to take on the BJP for not fulfilling the promising it had made with the Jammu electorate before the elections like equitable development of all three regions, revocation of Article 370, return of migrant Pandits to the Valley and would seek action against police men who beat the non state subject NIT students on the campus. Besides, the order on common medical entrance test which was unsuccessfully contested by the state government in the SC on the grounds of Article 370, which grants special status to the status under the Indian Constitution, is also on the agenda of the opposition. Apart from the Opposition, the ruling alliance could also face some heat from the MLAs, who failed to make it to the Council of Ministry in the new Coalition Government. The budget session which will begin from May 25 would see the Treasury and Opposition benches face to face for the first time in Kashmir since the coalition Government took over on April 4. With the state government proposing to table the budget on May 30 earlier during the Governor rule NN Vohra passed vote-on-account to prevent the state from sliding into crisis at the end of the financial year. According to sources, the Opposition parties will spell out their strategy for the session after holding meetings of their legislative parties within next few days while the PDP-BJP will also chalk out their strategy to counter the Opposition. A senior NC leader said that Govt has failed in implementing the agenda of alliance and failed in starting of development programs in the state "We have hundreds of issues of mis-governance to agitate which will definitely bring the true faces of this govt out in public," he said. "We would definitely act as a responsible opposition and raise issues of public importance," he said. While a senior Congress leader said, "We will seek answers from this government. What happened to the promises of Mehbooba Mufti to protect the Special Status of J&K. why did the government failed in contesting the NEET issue". Sources said that the all-time drama of MLA Engineer Rashid will definitely create chaos and hustle bustle in the Assembly which will keep the Govt in tight spot. After the formation of Government in April the PDP has received severe criticism from various quarters for following the political ideologies of BJP and implementing the agenda of RSS in Kashmir. |
