Capacity building workshop organized

RAJOURI, July 9: One day workshop for various stakeholders was organized today at Conference Hall CMO Office Rajouri for strengthening child protection mechanisms and community participation with the Government schools.
Ch. Altaf Hussain Chief Education Officer Rajouri and Rajiv Khajuria, Chief Executive Officer NDF were the resource persons during the workshop. The workshop was organized by Parvinder Singh Programme Manager NDF and Sunny Kumar Programme Coordinator NDF. Different stakeholders including ZEOs, ZEPOs, Headmasters, Village Education Committee (VEC) members, ZRP/ CRPs attended the workshop. Participatory sessions were organized with the stakeholders on different topics like child protection issues in the district, existing child protection mechanisms and recommendations of the participants for strengthening child protection mechanisms at school and community level, present functioning of VECs/ engagement with schools, recommendations for making VECs functional and development of school development plans. Rajiv Khajuria CEO NDF discussed in brief about the child protection issues and child rights. He explored the child rights and child protection issues with involvement of the participants. He further briefed the participants about the roles and responsibilities of VECs and apprised them that VECs and school staff/ management are equal stakeholders for ensuring quality education in Govt. schools. VEC members were asked to conduct regular meetings of VECs and develop their action plan that will enable them to develop linkages with various schemes of different departments for overall development of the Govt. schools. Participants were also trained on school development plans and its inclusion in district level plans. It was decided that school development plans will be developed in ten target schools on pilot basis and the same will be replicated in other schools also.
