Cornered BJP fields Brig Anil to defend the indefensible | Transfer of Property Act | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 9: The entire nation knows that the BJP ministers from Jammu made common cause with the PDP ministers and approved for discussion on and adoption of Transfer of Property Bill on June 23, the day founder of Jan Sangh Syama Prasad Mookerjee laid down his life this day in 1953 in Srinagar to integrate J&K into India and weaken the discriminatory and anti-India State Subject Laws. The nation also knows that the PDP-BJP government wanted to get the Bill enacted into Transfer of Property Act on June 30, but it couldn't do so because of the national intervention and the role the Jammu for India (JFI) played through the social networking sites, especially Twitter.com. It was the relentless campaign unleashed by the JFI on June 28 that stung the Indian nation which, in turn, became so active that more than 20,000 tweets were tweeted on the issue within 60 hours. These tweets from across the country and from even outside were nothing but blistering attacks on the Narendra Modi Government and the RSS. And such was the impact of the social media on the PMO and the RSS that they had to intervene. The result was that the PDP-BJP Government instead of tabling it in the assembly for discussion and adoption sent the highly controversial Bill to the Select Committee. The nation also knows that the only MLA who condemned the Bill and spoke against it was Pawan Gupta, independent MLA from Udhampur, who, surprisingly, was consistently interrupted when he spoke for less than two minutes. Everyone knows that angry Pawan Gupta entered the well of the house when convinced that certain elements in the government would not allow him to carry the day or speak in detail on the subject that had attracted the attention of the nation. He explained away his limitations and compulsions only the other day at the Press Club of Jammu. He was furious and he directed his attack more towards the BJP than the PDP. It is also too well known that BJP MLA from Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia wanted to speak against the Bill and also wanted its withdrawal, but the state BJP president Sat Sharma, who is also MLA, didn't allow him to speak - something which infuriated Rajiv Jasrotia. Sources close to Sat Sharma reveal that "Rajiv Jasrotia could have thrashed Sat Sharma, but he somehow maintained his cool". It is also too well known that the BJP fielded RS Pathania, MLA from Udhampur, not to seek withdrawal of the Bill but to urge the government to sent the Bill to the Select Committee. The government also wanted to safe its face and the BJP MLA came to its rescue. Remember, the decision of the coalition government to send the Bill to the select committee didn't mean the collapse of the Bill. The Bill is very much there and it will come up for discussion during the next session of the state legislature. It is also known that the Congress and the NC were for the discussion and adoption of the Bill and that they condemned the government when it decided to send the Bill to the Select Committee. This is brief history of the issue. However, the BJP, which has been under severe attack since June 28, when people came to know that the government wanted to adopted the Bill, has fielded its spokesperson Brig Anil Gupta to defend the indefensible - a move that has backfired with everyone charging the BJP leadership with cheating the nation in general and people of Jammu province in particular. He has said that it was because of the role of the BJP MLAs that the Bill was stalled. "It was due to the efforts of the BJP MLAs that the Bill has been stalled and referred to the select committee," Brig Anil Gupta, said. His statement is meaningless and misleading in the sense that it nowhere said that the BJP shall force the government to withdraw the Bill. It was just an exercise in self-deception that further angered the nationalists across the nation. The BJP, it seems, will not learn from past mistakes. |
