Burhan's life was a waste, one more man sacrificed for futile cause: SSP | | | Hyder Ali Early Times Report Srinagar, July 9: A top police official, who has been on the forefront of counter-insurgency operations in Kashmir, on Saturday dropped a bombshell claiming that Hizbul Muhajideen commander Burhan Wani, killed in gunfight Friday had never attacked security forces. Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain in a social media post said much against the public perception Burhan "didn't carry out even a single operation against the security forces." "The truth is, despite all his 'virtual' bravado', despite being a poster boy, he could not carry out a single action against security forces... !!! His life ?#?glamorized by ?#?media power, and his death celebrated in same way... by people who just stand on sidelines, and cheer gleefully ... Let?#?Truth be told, His life was a ?#?waste...one more man sacrificed for a ?#?futile cause... he is not the first, he won't be the last!!!," Imtiyaz posted on his Facebook account triggering a massive debate, which went viral despite suspension of mobile internet in the Valley, which has been on boil. Imtiyaz, who in 2010 was given the title of "Khakee Fidayeen" by a national magazine for his role in combating militancy, in a subsequent comment said: "He (Burhan) hasn't fired even a single bullet. He would use others." A 1999 batch KPS officer, Imtiyaz, has often been seen as "encounter specialist" who masterminded killing of several Lashkar militants, during his service tenure. Well connected to "source network", it is believed that earlier this year on May 24, he executed the "surgical shootout" at Sarai Bala here in the summer capital when two "Pakistani militants" were killed there. His social media post on Burhan has been well-taken by many of his colleagues in the police department, including Deputy Inspector General of Police, Uttam Chand. Imtiaz attributes Burhan's popularity in Kashmir to "media, where his pictures and videos were trending over the years." The poster boy of new age militancy in Kashmir and one of the most wanted militants, Burhan Wani, was killed in an encounter with Jammu and Kashmir police in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. Carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakhs, Burhan was wanted by police in around one dozen cases as were registered against him. Burhan was charged under the sections including 398, 307, 512, 13 ULA Act. In 2012, then, a 17-year-old, Burhan was charged for snatching weapon of a security guard. Official sources said this was the first case registered against him by police after he picked gun in 2010. Sources said police filed a case against him under 33/2012 in Police station Tral, under section 398 of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) on December, 20 2012. In another case, Tral police station registered a case vide number 73/12 under section 13 ULA Act in 2013. Police also registered a case under section 307 of RPC in police station Tral, 7/27 in 2015 when the total number of cases registered against him rose to 12. |
