JKPCC protests Panchayati raj amendment bill | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 9: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) staged a dharna outside Raj Bhawan here today to lodge protest against the controversial amendment bill, 2016 to the J&K Panchayat Raj laws and submitted a memorandum to the Governor urging him not to give his assent to the bill. According to press release, led by the President JKPCC, Senior Leaders of Pradesh Congress, sarpanchs/Panchs District Congress Committees assembled outside the Raj Bhawan. They also staged a sit-in before submitting the memorandum urging the Governor not to give assent to the Panchayat Amendment Bill,2016, which has passed by both the houses on the Strength of PDP-BJP Legislators, despite strong opposition by the congress and other opposition parties in the house. Addressing the gathering PCC Chief while castigating PDP-BJP coalition government said, "The amendment bill is aimed at eroding the grass root institution of democracy in the state, for which congress launched a struggle to empower them as per with 73rd amendment". He said that the Congress party right from Mahatma Gandhi and Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi worked to established and strengthen Panchayat Raj system in the Country. The Party while in coalition Govt. launched a struggle under the patronage of AICC vice- President Rahul Gandhi for incorporation of 73rd Amendment in the State as a result the State Panchayat Raj act was amended in March 2014 and all Good provisions were incorporated in the State Law to empower Panchayat Raj. Howover this coalition has moved on make PRIs defunct. Senior Vice-President Sh. Sham Lal Sharma lashed out at PDP-BJP and said that both the parties are exposed for their dual standard on various issues especially on power to people . The PDP talked of self rule and questioned if this is the definition of self rule slogan to divest people of their power to elect people of their choice. The BJP has surrendered for power on various issues and this move would weaken democracy in the State . He took dig at MOS PMO Dr. Jatinder Singh for questioning Congress instead of explaining the role of own party (BJP) in the Govt. , for bringing controversial and anti-democratic and anti-people bills and issues, which harm the broader interests of the people and the state.
