'Hoteliers asked to offer 30 pc discount to Amarnath pilgrims' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 9: The Jammu District administration today asked the hoteliers to offer 30 per cent discount to the pilgrims who got stranded or over staying in the winter capital as Amarnath Yatra was suspended from here due to tension in Kashmir Valley in the wake of Hizb militant Burhan Wani's death in a gunbattle yesterday. "Due to tension in Kashmir Valley, the yatra from Jammu for a time being has been suspended," Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner Jammu told. He said the inflow of pilgrims from across the country is continuing and the rush has been accommodated at the Yatri Niwas Bhawan, adding, "if in case no fresh batch of pilgrims will be allowed in couple of days due to prevailing Kashmir situation, we have made alternate arrangements other than Yatri Niwas to accommodate the visitors." "Various community halls, temples and sarai, are kept ready to meet any emergent situation to cater the rush of pilgrims," said the DC, adding that facilities like medical, drinking water, electricity are also being provided at these spots." Although likewise every year measures are already taken in view of monsoon season as due to rains, the yatra, often gets suspended but it has not yet happened so far. He however, said hoteliers have also been asked to offer special discounts to the pilgrims. "The hoteliers have agreed to offer 30 per cent discount to the pilgrims," Singh said and added that special teams have also been constituted to check overcharging and mismanagement by the hotel and lodges owners to the pilgrims. |
