Group clash leaves several injured in Mendhar, five injured shifted to Rajouri

Poonch, July 9: Two groups clashed over installation of Imam at Jamia Masjid Mustafa Nagar in Mendhar tehsil leaving several people injuredon Friday, of which five critically injured have been shifted to District Hospital (DH) Rajouri for specialized treatment, police source said.
Sources said, "The trouble started when people assembled in Jamia Masjid Mustafa Nagar to perform Friday Namaz when one group said that Molana Ishtiyaq will take the responsibility of Imam (priest) but other objected the nomination and supported Hafiz Shakeel a local religious head.
"The heated arguments took ugly turn resulting into clash among the two sides in which several people were injured," sources told Early Times here today.
They added as soon as the clash broke out Molana Ishtiyaq left the spot while as Hafiz Shakeel was confined inside the mosque for one and a half an hour.
"After receiving the information about the clash a police team headed by SDPO Shahid Naeem and SHO Anzar Mir rushed to the sport and rescued the Imam Hafiq Shakeel from his the spot, they added.
Meanwhile some agitated locals also blocked Jammu-Mendhar road at Sangra Chowk who were protesting against the miscreants who started the trouble, they said.
"The injured including Lambardar Gohlad Manzoor Khan and Head Master Showkat Ali along with others have been admitted in SDH Mendhar while five critically injured namely Said Mohd, Zayid Khan, Zakir Hussain, Asif Khan and Imran Khan have been shifted to district Hospital Rajouri for specialized treatment," sources said.
While pacifying the protestors SDPO Shahid Naeem assured them that people responsible for creating trouble will be identified and will be booked under law very soon.
District Development Commissioner Poonch MH Malik while talking to Early Times said that no religion teaches us to fight on timing issues like this.
"We ought to maintain the sanctity of the religious places and people of the area themselves should decide whom the responsibility of the Imama shall be assigned," DDC Poonch added.
Meanwhile Youth Club Mendhar Chairman Advocate Nadeem Khan said we should not indulge in desecration of religious places instead we are all supposed to maintain the sanctity of the same.
Police sources said that FIR vide No. 104 have been lodged against 27 miscreants who have been identified by the police and will be booked very soon, they added.
